Discovery Time Here are some photos showing the creations made in week 5 when we had some visitors from B3, also some from last week. Discovery Time is a favourite part of our week!
Sports Moves DanceWe used sports played at the 2014 Commonwealth Games to brainstorm how the athletes move their bodies. We listed the ways that their bodies move, e.g. pushing, twisting. In pairs, the children invented a dance move using a verb. They then taught the moves to each other to make a dance. We chose suitable music and practised in the class. Then we performed it at Friday assembly. Please watch the video.
News Report! We have completed our research about 4 countries that attended the 2014 Commonwealth Games. We used the information to make a news programme. This is the first time some of us have either appeared in front of the camera or used one. Two people were directors. Have a look at the video.
Maths Moments We have been making fractions. Check out what one group did today...
We have been exploring shapes in maths. We used large loops of string to make shapes. The children found that 1 hand makes a corner. Look at the photographs below.
We used four hands to make a rectangle.
Five hands - Five corners - a pentagon!
6 hands - 6 corners - a hexagon!
3 hands - 3 corners - a triangle.
6 hands making 6 corners - this must be another ...
We also ordered ourselves according to our height. Can you see who is tallest?
Social Sciences Topic Term 1 - Our Place, Our River One of our research questions was - What are other rivers in New Zealand used for?
We compared how people used the Clutha river with how people used the Inangahua river. We made Puppet Pals presentations to share our information. Check these out below.
